Hey folks! My name is Nick Maltby, and I’m the owner and operator of Bangarang Custom Baits. I’m also a husband to my beautiful and talented wife, Kaitlin, and a soon-to-be dad to our daughter, Marcella.

I love Jesus, my family, and building badass musky baits.

I’ve been building musky lures since 2016, but my love for fishing and the outdoors goes back as far as I can remember. If I wasn’t out fishing, I was usually making or building something.

Eventually, my love for creating and my passion for fishing crossed paths in my mid-20s when I began my quest for the elusive muskellunge.

The deeper I got into musky fishing, the more fascinated I became by the niche, DIY subculture surrounding it. The grit. The grind. The obsession. It was right up my alley.

As a (not-so) former hardcore punk rocker and skateboarder, I loved the underground feel of musky fishing and lure making. Before I knew it, I was tying marabou bucktails every chance I got.

At the time, I was a manager at Gander Mountain. Around 2017, the company filed for Chapter 11, and suddenly I was out of a job. My friends, family, and the small group of customers already buying my bucktails kept encouraging me to turn this thing into a business.

Build musky baits? Sure.

Build musky baits full time?

That sounded impossible.

But my stubborn drive to chase things far outside my reach and skill set won once again.

So the grind began.

And by the grace of God, I’m still here a decade later. My passion for building the best damn musky baits I possibly can has only gotten stronger.

I’m grateful. I’m humbled. And I’m dedicated to this craft.
